2. Way more than just a gimmicky bossa nova session – and a surprisingly great showcase for the inventive rhythms of the Brubeck group, and the sensitive alto work of Paul Desmond! The record's got a really different feel than some of Dave's other work for Columbia – in that the modernism is put slightly on the back burner – letting drummer Joe Morello snap out with some lightly.

3. Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck's cool laid back jazz, Bossa Nova USA does not have any surprises and it doesn't need any. It takes all the way to the third track on side two "Cantiga Nova Swing" before things get moving, but then "Lamento" gets this release right back to a lazy sleepy mellow vibe, but always with an easy swing.

6. Bossa Nova U.S.A., from , is really not the expected bossa nova album with the usual Jobim or Gilberto tunes. Indeed, nothing here comes from Brazil, except occasional samba or quasi bossa nova meters, such as with the title first track, the following pieces Vento Fresco and Irmão Amigo, and producer Teo Macero's contribution, Coraçâo Sesivel, the Portuguese language titles being a /5(24).
